Understanding the difference between diet and nutrition is so essential, especially if you’re relying on food to change—or save—your life.
Diet typically refers to a specific eating plan focused on weight loss or managing certain medical issues like high cholesterol or diabetes. Nutrition, however, is about providing your body with the essential nutrients it needs to function optimally. It’s not just about what you eat but how the food you consume supports your overall health and well-being.This critical difference is why I chose nutrition as a key means of reversing my multiple sclerosis (MS) diagnosis.
Nutrition vs. Diet: My Approach
Instead of getting bogged down by the chaos of choosing a diet plan—vegetarian, vegan, paleo, keto, Mediterranean, etc., I prioritized nutrition as soon as I started my journey to reverse MS. I committed to providing my body with the essential raw materials it needed to rebuild itself. I believed that the body could regenerate. "Your body will literally rebuild itself in about seven years. Bones, tissues, organs—everything can be brand new,” I told myself.
Each Bite Counts
My philosophy was simple yet profound: every piece of food I consumed had the potential to either contribute to building a stronger, healthier body or to make me sick. This mindset became my motivation. I often asked myself, “Is this going to build me a strong new body, or will it make me sick?”
Staying Motivated
Maintaining motivation over the years wasn’t easy, but it was clearly necessary. Thirteen years later, and I’m equally committed to my nutrition plan, people still ask how I do it. After learning to navigate the ins and outs of my individual nutritional needs, the tangible health improvements kept me on track. In the bigger picture, staying focused was simple: I didn’t want my MS body back. I wanted to keep the new, healthier body I’d rebuilt without MS.
The Power of Choice
My story is a testament to the power of focusing on nutrition rather than getting lost in the myriad of diet options. My success in reversing my MS diagnosis underscores the importance of providing the body with the right nutrients to support its natural ability to heal and regenerate. My journey offers inspiration and a clear message for anyone facing similar health challenges: prioritize nutrition and let every bite count towards building a stronger, healthier you.
